ok let me set up the story... before my question.

a couple of months ago my truck started to have trouble shifting from reverse to first when backing out of my driveway, each time it was low on tranny fluid. I would fill it back up, but a while later the same problem.

About a week ago i was backing out of my driveway and when i put it in first it would not go. I figured the usual problem so i put it in park. i tried again. still the same thing. so i tried reverse. nothing. i sat for a minute the put it in drive. it worked for about 10 feet. I then heard some loud clicks or pops the my car stopped. i put it in reverse and nothing happened. I tried to drive it again and it works but it is very sluggish. I have no neutral or reverse and drive is very sluggish...
What have i done?
How to fix it?
Possible cost?

fix

well I dont know exactly what your problem is, but dont drive your explorer anymore than you have to. Those trannys dont just let lose in one area, when they decide to go they realy go. I hope you are speaking of the automatic transmission. Well the first thing you should do is try changing the fluid and filter, if that doesnt work Im not sure how to identify your problem. However if you have high mechanical capibility you can rebuild it yourself, just get the manuel for your trasmission and be shure you replace all the seals and cluches back in the same manner, here in corpus christi tx. I got a basic overhall kit for 56.00$. If you decide to have a shop do the work or rebuit tranny put in, you are now talking mega bucks, ha. just thaught I'd through that in. I realy dont know what your situation is but, good luck with wich ever path you take.

A ford aod is the worst to rebuild. They are tedious. Sounds like some internal band probs. Make sure to look for metalk when you drop that pan. I bet there is plenty.

Yea the shop said that i cracked the reverse band?
well he also said it is common in explorers because the aod sucks. he quoted me about 1400 to rebuild it. That is bad, well i have to start saving up.
