I've been having a problem the last couple days. When I get in and shut the door, the door ajar light is still on. After I drive down the road for a bit, it goes away and all is good.

Today, I noticed that my dome light stays on after I shut all the doors and lock them. As if one of my doors is open. I have opened and shut all my doors. I've checked over the doors to look for a little thing that tells the Explorer's doors are shut. I can't even find whatever it is that tells the Explorer the doors are shut.

Plus, the power lock doesn't work on the door. It will lock when I press the key fob. I know I'm usually not able hit the power lock on the door when my keys are still in the ignition. Thing is the keys are in my hand.

One of the door latches is bad. Most likely the driver's front since you said the power door locks are inoperative with the switch. To be sure you replace the correct one, have the GEM module scanned at a Ford dealer, and they'll be able to tell you which one has failed. From there it's just a matter of replacing the whole door latch assembly.

We see this all the time on vehicles at our shop. It's not that big of a deal to replace the latch.

try spraying your latches with white lithium grease. Mine did the same thing for the longest time, but hasn't done it in months since I coated the latches with the white lithium. Cheaper than replacing the latches for sure.

the door latches and sensors just get coated with dirt and stuff. i sprayed my hatch door with wd40 and it hasn't come back for a couple months now. Every now and then you will have to do it again.

A friend just paid $534 dollars to have the 'Dorr is ajar' corrected by the dealer. This fix would have been easier and CHEAPER. ;)

I had the same problem. The "Door Ajar" light was on for the last 3 months. I finally decided to do something about it, and found this thread on Saturday. I WD-40'd all the door handles and latches and the problem is now fixed. Thanks guys.

I had the "Door Ajar" light problem about 4 1/2 years after the 2002 Exp. was
new... Did the WD40 Fix on all the Latches and no further problem, so far !
