I recently decided to take my X thru this "puddle", which ended up being more like a pond! I was almost out of it nd my X jus died. It didn't make any horrible noises it jus slowly killed itself as if u had jus shut it off. I took the spark plugs out nd it still doesn't turn over. All I can get is the starter solenoid to click over but it don't turn the motor. Jus a single click is all I get.. Any suggestions!?!?!? I need this fixed ASAP as this is my daily driver.. My X has a six inch skyjacker lift with 33's.. Where I came to a stop the water was almost covering my rear tire.. Nd I had made it thru 20+feet of it before it died.

how deep did the water get at the deepest in the puddle? wheels, doors, windshield?

Easily covered my tires but not close to the windows.

Since you get the click, and the starter won't turn it over you need to figure out if the Starter is the issue or if the motor is locked.

With the plugs out, put a big arse socket and breaker bar on the crank pulley bolt and make sure you can turn it over. If you can then the motor isn't stuck which is very good.

Next is to pull the starter and bench test it. There is a solenoid on the starter and its possible it is dead now.

Also, the ECM is located in the passenger foot well behind the trim to the right of the passengers feet. Did the water get up there? If so, the ECM may not be happy anymore but that wouldn't give you the click when you try to start it. It would keep it from running but not stop you from turning the engine over.

well if it died in the water and now wont start you may have hydro-lock, as Maniak pointed out. can you turn it with a socket. the stall could be caused by sucking up water through the intake, look in the air box at the air cleaner is it wet? your starter would be why it wont start but doesn't answer why it died.

Ok so finally got to work on the truck. Motor does NOT turn over manually. When I tried to turn it over with a socket nd breaker bar it jus loosened and tightened the bolt. Did not turn tue motor at all. The starter still clicked over but only a single click nd that's it. Is my motor seized?

Pull your plugs out and see what that does. this could be a somewhat time sensitive issue. so dont dally around or you could screw your X up if it has water in it.

pull your plugs and see if it will crank over.

ouch! um well when you torqued the crank shaft bolt you have the X in park or neutral? try it in neutral if its an auto and the tranny locked up. otherwise im out if ideas.
OH!, do you have a volt or amp gauge on this X? if you do when you turn the key and if the starter is trying to engage you will see the gauge spike low in volts or current. this will tell us if the starter is actually trying to engage and to either look at the starter or the motor and tranny.

Its Hydrolocked!!its done!! Time for a new motor!

I recently did the same thing. I hate to tell you it may be hydrolocked as jd4242 said. My motor did not completly lock but I did get bad rod knock. Check the air box, I only had a few drops in mine but it was enough to ###### it up. The only advise i can say is what the other guys already said. Oh yea you might want to pull a valve cover and check out the pushrods and see if they are bent. If the motor locked, it may have bent the rods and this may be a sign that it is locked up. GOOD LUCK.

Oh yea you got any pics!!! We need to see the damage!!!

Starter

A few years ago I was 4 wheeling in my old bronco. I had an issue with the clip at the end of the starter broke and got jammed between the starter gear and flywheel. It acted like a hydro locked engine. I even tried to push start it down a hill and pop the clutch. All 4 wheels would lock up. I had to be towed off the trail. Once I got home I removed the starter and that little piece of clip fell out. I replaced the starter and everything was fine.
Its a long shot.

Ok, got the X towed home. Tore intake tubing nd intake manifold off. Back two cylinders were flooded the whole way up to the intake manifold. Still won't turn over with the starter. Haven't tried manually with a breaker bar. And yes, before anyone else asks, the plugs are out! Hav been since it flooded.

So what are you asking?there is nothing you can do but pull the motor and replace it or rebuild it.

Shyte dude, wonder how many rods you bent? When you rip it apart shoot us some pics, always fun to see carnage pics. Consider it a good excuse to freshen it up...
