Smile help for buying the new tires
I am planning to change the two rear side tires(235-75-15) for my 2-wheel-drive 95 explorer. I made some phone call and have some ideas about it.

1. STS signature series, 2 for $150 (50th anniversary promotion), plus installation, total $190 + tax. that is the cheapest one I can find now. Do you really think installation and balancing will cost $20 each???

2. cooper, total 260.90 for 2 tires including everything.

3. in walmart, Doglas, 2 for $160, excluding installation or tax.

I am a poor student who just got a daughter 3 months ago, and just want to be safe when driving in winter because my rear tire is bad that brought a lot slippery to me last winter. So please, help me to decide which one I should buy? Also, any other suggestion is very welcome! Thank you very much!

Are you a member of Costco or Sam's Club, or know someone who is? You can get better, name brand tires for less. For winter snow I had great luck with BFG Longtrail T/As from Sam's, under $400 for 4 installed.

Mounting and balancing is a bit high most places seem to be about $12 but the cost on the tires is not a bad deal. If you really need tires and really broke shop around at some used tire shops. Sometimes you can get a pair of tires still in good shape for about $25, including mounting.

I have found numerous deals on 235-75-15 tires on Craigslist, although after I bought a new set.

A few good finds were low mileage Firestone Destination A/T for $100, low mileage Michelin LTX M/S for $150, low mileage Revos for $150...

Yah seriously, dont double post. I deleted the other thread.

Thank you all so much!

Has anyone used STS signature series tires?? Any idea about STS tires? If it is not bad, I'll just go ahead for it. After all, it is relatively cheap and kind of brand, right? what do you guys think?

I went to sam's, around $90 each(the best one is $100 each in walmart), but mounting is free, balancing costs $5 each, totally almost same final cost with 'STS'. I am really having hard decision to make now. please give me some suggestion. I appreciate it very much!

by the way, I am not a member of Sam's.

Yo! I got zapped too... So the condition of your rear tires on your 2wd is such that you need to replace them for traction. However, the front wheels need traction also as you steer... Soooo.... my original question was are your front tires as bad as the rear tires? Thanks :)

Front two tires are better than rear ones since my truck is rear-wheel-drive. Thanks

Well, it seems like ya only need one tire then to match the spare - put the fronts on the rear and the spare and new one on front, no? Good luck!
