2017 Ford Explorer/Interceptor AWD 3.7 N/A is making a grinding noise (think of metal in a blender) at 1200-1400ish rpm area. It comes and goes intermittently, usually per use as opposed to coming and going mid-use. I purchased it used about a month ago and it is at 200,000 miles. The sound appears to be under the vehicle behind the engine.

Welcome to the Forum Hunter.
I would tend to agree with LuckyRabbit that it could be your PTU that is failing. Do notice any propane-type odours around the vehicle? It may not be a bad idea to have that checked out. They only contain 23.7 fluid ounces of lubrication.
You seem to have lost about 30,000 miles according to your post in the new members forum.:D
