this may be long - so thanks in advance if you read the whole thing ... last friday (the 15th) i was driving and my brake light came on - i had just gotten my truck from Zeibart and i thought that maybe they left my emergnecy brake on so i check that and it was off ... so the light doesn't go off ... but i dont have any problems stopping and my petal isn't funny or anything .. i get to my house and turn off my truck and said to myself i'll deal with this later .. i start my truck a little bit after that and the light wasn't on - so i thought that it was a fluke .. ... so i drive it to chicago that night with my friends to go pick up a car ('93 RX-7 from A-Spec Tuning) ... we're driving back and i had to stop and get gas ... remember no other problems have happened due to my brake light ... i go to start my truck after filling up and it wont start the first time and i'm like geesh its acting like the rx-7 (it just had a rebuilt engine and it has a really mean idle) ... so then it starts on the second try ... didn't think anything of it ... i didn't drive the truck all weekend more than backing it in and out of my stall in the garage ... i go to start my truck this morning and it wont start ... my battery is fine - we checked the charge on it ... if i give the car gas then it starts but when i let off the gas it dies - kinda like a manual does if you let off the clutch - really quickly and harsh ... i finally got it to start and run with my foot off of the gas so i turned it off and tried it again (thinking i'm not getting stuck with this truck somewhere) and it wouldnt start ... try it again and it does start but the RPM's are at like almost 1500 and then dropping down to almost 700 just sitting there in park ... usually its very steady at like 800 .... i have an apt with ford tomorrow but i just wondered if anyone else had this problem before or what they think it might be ...

could be the mas, or the tp sensor, one of many things

Yup, probably MAS, TPS, or IAC. Could also be an O2 sensor.

Any CELs? If not, I'd lean towards IAC. Dunno about the brake lamp though, dunno if they're related. Maybe you have an electrical problem that is affecting both systems.

Might wanna check the fluid level in your brake fluid resivoir. Mine would come on and go off and I checked it and it was a little low, filled it up and never had another problem. As for the engine problems good luck, cant help ya there.

i did check it and it was find

ford just called - the idle air valve was broken and the computer needs to be reprogramed ... this truck only has 38000 miles on it - change the oil every 5,000 miles with synethic oil, never gets below a 4th of a tank of gas, i dont 'romp' on it by any means, it doesn't take long road trips very often, and its never gotten over 85 mph ... should this have broken?? when we bought my truck we bought the Ford Extra Care warrenty - its was like 900 dollars on top of the cost of the truck and it covers the car up to 75,000 miles on mos things that could go wrong with the car - and this isn't covered ... you would think that this is something that is major and would be covered by this "wonderful" warrenty since if i dont get it fixed soon everytime i start my car i'm one start closer to it not starting - it already dies everytime i take my foot off the gas ...

Hold your brake lever out and with your foot, push up on the parking brake...for the brake light

for the stalling...it is your IAC...mine went out at 37,000 miles...and i only had it for 3 months...
mine after starting, it stalls and hard to start, you have to keep the foot on the gas...it is your IAC...

my point was that that shouldnt happen at that millage ... and it should be covered by that warrenty that i have ... they were just pricks at ford :fire: :fire: hen they called me and told me ... :yelexp: :shoot:

I cant believe the warranty will not cover this, I would go up there and have a nice long talk with some people up there. If that does not work then start writing letters, call Clark Howard ;) (atlanta people know about him), or just make sure they know how you feel. That is really uncalled for and I am amazed that they will not cover it.

its the extended care warrenty ... i'm not having ford fix my car - they quoted me almost 700 dollars to fix it ... a local repair shop that we have gone to for ages will fix it for 200 ... nice difference huh ... they did awesome work on one of my friends cars - no where could find anything wrong with it and they could and fixed it 150%!! needless to say ford will hear about this ...

if they won't cover it... tell them to go f**k themselves and buy the part yourself. You can change it in about 5 minutes... it is a joke, and it only costs you $70. I can't believe it's not covered though.... they go bad often.

i dont get pissed often but i'm headed their now .. and i have a feeling my final sentence is going to be - fine whatever just give me my key so i can get the ____ out of here..

Reasons like this is why I threaten to crash my X on purpose sometimes... :D

The day will come where i dont have to deal with it anymore... i cant wait.. lol

Good Luck Shorty ;)

hey you have done that too?

Gotta love Ford:rolleyes: Well they keep me busy fixing problems like this for people like you:D I can't wait to retire and open my own shop, I would changed that for you for about $40 labor win-win situation.

:chug: :chug:

i have a 98...and the warranty wouldnt cover it either, cuz they said the warranty out of the factory was 2 years...

i got it all worked out with ford - they are going to fix it - i have the extra care warrenty and when i bought it a year ago they said that that was the best warrenty that i could buy so we bought it - turns out they lied and the premimum care is the best - so i'm upgrading to that and getting my truck fixed there for about a third of the cost after i told them "you can't do any better than that cost?" "nope" "ok give me my keys" ... they didnt like that ... thanks charlie for the advice - and remember i did crash mine last winter
