Hi guys! I recently has the entore enigine replaced on my 96 exporere (due to cracked head gasket). Today I noticed my $WD $Wlow lights are flashing. I have reas through mos of the piost on this and it says most likely the culprit is the actuator motor. My question to you wise peple is..where is that located? Is it in the engine?? I have a warranty on the new engine..so I am hoping it is located there!!!
Thanks abunch

Had the same problem girl, will get back shortly after the ****tail hour

Thanks..I look forward to your response!
I should really proof read before I post! Too many mis-typed words! I am clueless about cars but I am a smart girl who can spell..typing is iffy though!!!!!

Well if i read your post correctly the shift motor is on the back of the t-case by the driveshaft. though if your 4wd lights are flashing it could also be the hall effect sensors. You can get the codes read and find out what the problem is exactly.

I think I understood most of that

How many times do the 4WD lights flash before going out again?
And no, the shift motor is on the back of the transfercase and not directly associated with the engine.

I have reas through mos of the piost on this and it says most likely the culprit is the actuator motor.

Please Translate

TRANSALTION::
I have read through most of the posts on this and it says most likley the culprit is the actuator motor.

I dont know how many times they falsh..4-5 times I guess. I just noticed it as I was driving in ice and rain so I couldnt count!!

Ok I think that was all the questions!
Thanks

Ok upon further investigation for this 4wd non engaging/blinking light problem... people are recommending
1) disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to try and reset (okay I can do that)
2) Smack the transfer case a few times to try and engage it if it is stuck...umm where is that located??
Thanks

just back
this thread is useless without pics, pls post a pic of you holding the hammer with which you are about to smack the transfer case with, that way we can assist you as to the proper grip, I do not want to see you damage anything:)

h'ok, what you want to do is grab your trusty left hand johnson screwdriver, (not the phillips) and rotate the kineutin valve sub-clockwise to your left. Then, the forked resonator has to be checked. It might be electrical, so refill the blinker fluid. Rotate and grease the muffler bearings. Lube the brake lines, not the rotors though. You should be set after that...

j/k :D :p

Thanks you grease monkey idiots. I was here for some serious help..and you guys think it is above my head. I know the basics of cars, which is why I was asking for help..like many men do.

I thank the men here who did offer help..it was greatly appreciated. Now I can go to a mechanic and not get ripped off..or talked "down" to. Information is all I needed, and it was appreciated. :(

You do know that I was just kidding and didn't mean anything serious right?

Yup! I may not know about the underneath of a car, but humour (especially mens humour), I know!
Have a great one!
Appreciate the laugh...now..I have to call the mechanic!

I had the same issue and it tuned out to be nothing. I had the codes read at the dealer, they found nothing wrong, erased the error codes and no problem since. So, while the (serious) other Forum members have brought up good things to check, don't be surprised it nothing turns up. Also, the "hall effect" sensors that Doug referred to are pretty easy to find and clean. And, shift motors have been known to work after a good tap with a hammer. There's also the possibility that the motor has lost it's indexing and needs to be 're-aligned'. As Jefe mentioned, the flashing lights are a code. If you have a chance, the next time the flashes happen, get a count. They will flash and then stop for a few moments, then flash the code again. This will happen a few times and then stop. Knowing the number of flashes will help us to help you diagnose your problem.

Welcome to the Board - Dave.

just a girl - check the electrical connections to the t/f caseunder the truck. It's possible one may have come loose.

I'd start with the battery disconnect to reset the computer. If flashing comes back after that, count the # of flashes and how frequent they come and let us know.
