Well this is a new record for me. I pulled my codes and had 16. So I need to start tearing into the truck. It's a 2000 mercury mountanier, v8 awd. If someone has seen this and can give me some helpful pointers on where to start that would really be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Codes are as follows:

p0340
p0351
p0352
po354
p0350
po300
p0172
p0175
p0340
p0351
po352
po354
p0360
po300
p0172
p0175

I don't know why it repeated some of the codes. I'll see if I can find a site that lists the code meanings to further help out. Thanks

Is your battery good? A bad battery or soon to be bad battery can cause a whole bunch of wacky stuff. start by checking your battery.

Thanks for the help but my battery is brand new.

I went ahead and replaced the crank pos sensor and it is running much better, but still not up to par

Looks like a few of those codes are for the ignition coil. May want to test/replace that.

The 0172, and 0175 indicate both banks are running rich. Check your fuel pressure, fuel injectors, and fuel pressure regulator.

Diagnosing the rich banks I believe that the the misfires are leading to my rich condition (bad spark, rich exhaust)

Is there more than one cam position sensor on these vehicles? As soon as I start to run it it says cam position bank 1? I think I may just go through the whole ignition...... I'm thinking of replacing my plug wires as the plugs are new, cam position sensor is new, Coils seem to be firing. It's got to be something simple as all these codes popped out of nowhere. It has to be one main problem triggering all the others. The hunt continues :)

ok your battery is new....how are the connections? any green stuff there? make sure you have a good clean connection. did you ever have to replace your battery connections with those cheap lead fittings?

So do you have both an '02 Sport Trac, and a '00 Mountaineer?

Factory connections are in good shape but I just cut back my wires and they are a bit corroded. I'm going to cut those back and connect some new wire and wrap it to see if that helps any.

Quick question......... I went to advance for my crank position sensor. How can you tell if you have a 2 prong or 3 prong? Are they interchangeable? What if they gave me the wrong one?

not sure if they are interchangable...I would think if they gave you the wrong one you would be having some problems right now.

was there alot of corrosion?

Yes I do, sport trac has it's own issues but is a solid daily driver that gets played pretty hard, Mountaneer is my wives winter car.

I can't confirm there is alot, but it is rusting on the inside so I'm going to guess there's alot.

The car should be pretty panned out soon. Engine and tranny have been replaced with a low mileage pull out and dang near everything is new. My wife wants a land rover freelander instead of the mountaneer so I'm thinking I may just have to sell it, I'd like to have it running good regardless. Of course she decides she wants a freelander right after I put rims and tires on it. I think this is the mountaneer's way of being pissed at her.

you've had to replace both engine and tranny? how many miles are on the truck?

well if you do have to sell the mountaineer....why not a Ford Escape? they are a fun little truck. And they are safe! My 80 year old grandma had one and got in a head on collision with a plow truck at 60 MPH. luckily she swerved and the plow truck hit passenger side. But it did a damn fine job letting her walk away... without a scratch. but them things are pretty fast, and reliable! here are just a couple I found on ebay if your interested....

edit: oh yeah, I think a Land Rover Freelander is pretty much the same thing as a Escape, after all Ford does own land rover. but still....i imagine it would cost more to fix a land rover.

Actually I bought the truck like that. Prior owner told me about it. His tranny went out and the shop he took it too told him with the mileage that he would be better off having a low mileage pullout from a wrecked vehicle. Basically the guy got taken by a mechanic and a salvage yard. So I ended up with a 2000 mountaneer that needed brakes and minor work with 172k on the body and about 50-60k on the drivetrain. I was skeptacle of his story until I jacked up the car and found the salvage yard inventory markings and mileage.

So far all I have done to the truck is cross drilled and slotted rotors on all four corners, ceramic pads, misc maintenance items, rims and tires and I have a pretty good looking mountaneer to tow my drag car in the summer and a AWD for my wife to drive in the winter (she has a bmw, it sucks in snow)

This problem just appeared out of nowhere so I know it will end up being one thing throwing everything else haywire

Oh yeah, half the instrument clusters light don't work..... I need to source that out too

I'm probably going to get into something larger, I'd like an expedition or a F250/350

My wife wants a freelander...... I'm not arguing with her. She wants a black or silver, 4 door, hse with AWD. She's a great girl and I let her get what she wants
