Hi Guys

First post here so be gentle :) I have a 2007 Sport Trac V8 Ltd and over the last month or so I have had an issue with some short spurts of rough driving. I am driving along and all of a sudden it would seem to miss then about 30 seconds later everything was fine again, no engine light came on so I thought everything would work itself out. So I go on vacation for a few weeks.

So I go out Monday to start her up and the Battery is flat, so I get my charger out and give it a engine start and all is fine. I drive about 10 miles and get out for five mins to unload and when I get back it has trouble starting up again due to the battery, finally get her going and then as I am driving I get a engine light, followed by a spanner symbol and then a message to check the charging system, soon as I put my foot on the gas that messages goes away. Anyway I make it home although when I came to a stop I could tell it wasn't accelerating like it should do.

I get my test meter out and it reads two codes, first says low system voltage and the other says engine misfire.

So I guess my first question is has anyway had an issue like this before? 2nd is would an ignition coil have anything to do with alternator, I am thinking it could be an alternator gone bad but could it be an ignition coil that's causing an issue with the alternator and the alternator could be fine? I had the issue with it missing way before the other issues and I had a similar issue with my 05 Mustang missing once and I changed out a coil and all was fine after that, it has been very wet here in Central Florida of late and wonder if something has got damp. Other than the misfire its been driving great as normal.

OK sorry I am rambling again, hope someone can give me some idea or maybe thing to test.

Thank you for reading

Stuart

Hello, thanks for the advice, I received my new coils last night and switched them out but still getting the same issue, right now the battery is at 10v and it won't go up when the engine is turning over like there is no power from the alternator maybe? I did change it out about four years ago!

Any ideas what I can do from here please?

Many Thanks

Stuart

Welcome to the forum outatime.

I also have an 07 Ltd with similar issues. I was having rough response that would go away when I gave it some gas. I also had an issue where I would get the airbag light coming on. The airbag light was fixed by replacing the battery, because the airbag module was getting low voltage. It had the original battery and they are only good for 6 years. The roughness went away after I had the plugs replaced(only $200, I love my mechanic) Unfortunatly the CEL came back on this weekend so I'll be ordering some plugs from brenspeed.com

Hi Guys

Back again, just to put this to rest it was the alternator that had died, new one in and we are all up and running again. Thank you
