Help, is this a good price?

Is this a fair price? I was quoted $575 out the door for upper and lower intake gasket/o-rings replacements. Said they will use the updated parts including new bolts as specified by Ford.
This is an independent family owned auto center. Is this price in the average hi/low for this job? Thanks... oh...this is on a '99 Explorer Sport w/170K 4 wheel drive.

I would suggest you have the shop also replace the injector o-rings when they are in there.
Idk how mechanically inclined you are, but if you are comfortable with it the job will take a solid day or 2 if you donno what you're doing. Not an expensive job if doing yourself

I will probably wait on the injector o-ring change. I am fairly mechanically inclined and might try that one myself. If I get into the job I would also consider installing new injectors.

Is this just a good thing to do since the engine has 170K'ish miles or is there a symptom I should be looking for?...thanks...

I'm not sure why you wouldn't do this yourself. If you're even remotely mechanically inclined you can do this yourself and save about $500 of that $575. I did mine myself in a few hours and haven't ever done it before. All you do is unbolt a bunch of things and slap it back together again, you really can't screw it up.

Arrrgh...too late. They did the job today. So next time I will see the sticky (I'm sure there is a sitcky for this...) and save some bucks for sure. Dang, coulda bought lots of ammo for 500!
