The shafts are held in with a c clip and rubber o ring. Push shaft toward centre to remove c clip. I suspect that the rubber o ring has collapsed.

thanks howard ...the o rings were ok but a shim at each side had collapsed (worn thru)
they are on order now but i have also encountered another problem my rear parking brake shoes are shot ...do u know where i can either obtain replacement linings or cheap equivelents as ford have quoted me £96 plus vat each side ...surely there must be another vehicle with the same shoes fitted out there

regards ..Nick

Well over here http://www.usauto.co.uk/ have them in stock at £41.50 plus VAT and PP for the axle set. Or if you can wait I might be able to get some from the states a bit cheaper.

Nick, are the handbrake shoes down to the metal? If not, even when new they have a very thin lining material - about half the thickness you'd expect on new shoes for any other car. Don't be fooled into thinking you need new ones just because they look a bit worn down. In theory they should never wear out because in normal circumstances the wheels aren't turning when you apply the parking brake...

in theory :) hahaha

in the USA we pay $80-100 US fr the new parking brake shoes..
