Help me decipher this axle tag.

I need help for a buddy of mine. He has an 8.8 with this axle tag.
S324A
08 88 0H10

He wants to know what the gear ratio and if it has a LS. Its not the stocker on his ranger so the door tag wont help..

There should be 2 tags, and it's the other one that shows gear ratio

He can also look on the VIN sticker if it's all stock and he hasn't messed with it.

It's not hard to decipher the tag. It will say the axle ratio on it. if it's just 3 55, or 3 73 etc then it's an open carrier if it has 3L55, etc. then it's a limited slip

Thanks, thats what i thought but i wasnt 100% sure. i keep trying to convince the guy to ditch the 8.8 for a 9" anyways lol.

Do you know the ol' jack it up and spin the wheel trick in case the tag is missing Sean?

mark a chalk spot on the driveshaft and the tire, one complete rotation of the tire and somebody count how many times the shaft spins.

It looks to me like the 2nd line is missing an initial 3 from the gear ratio, making it a 3.08 open diff.

You could also pop the cover off . If it has that giant "S" spring in the spider, then LS it is.
