Help me decipher whatbI have here.

1996 Explorer 5.0L Eddie Bauer AWD. My owners manual says I have a 4r55E. The door panel sticker says I have a "U" transmission. I have found that to mean 4r70w. When I do the math on 4lo.com...at 75mph I'm turning 2350 rpm......that give me an overdrive ratio of .76. 4r55e are .67 and 4r70w is .70. My tires are p235/75/15 , which equates to 28.9in tires.

What am I missing?????

Your tires are probably not exactly 28.9 inches, so that can throw off the math.

The 4R70W is the transmission with the 5.0

Correct. You have the 4r70w automatic
All 5.0 v8 do 96-01

The 4.0 v6 used the 4r55e automatic

Thanks for clarifying this....when I saw conflicting data....it had me worried. I bought 2 Explorers as donors....and the 4R70W is key
