Help me please! I'm going crazy from a knocking noise in the front end.

my ford explorer 1998 has aquired a front end knocking or thumping sound at the speed of 30mph and above it is not constant but happens at random times during my journey, i changed tie rod ends and sway bar bushes no difference any ideas please

still having problems does anybody know a garage in the derbyshire area who have a bit of knowledge on ford explorers who could help? many thanks

Lower ball joint, upper or lower control arm bushes, steering rack securing bolts, just some things to look at
But first thing to check is the caliper securing bolts, these have been known to work loose.

Good advice from Jan. Mine started clunking yesterday, but only when I braked. One of the caliper mounting bracket bolts was missing!!!

checked ball joints and caliper bolts and visual check on shocks still no joy i will just keep trying other ideas?

Steering rack or cooler mounting bolts/bushes???
Upper or lower control arm bushes??
