ok so i dont really do any off roading but latly driving around town with all this snow residue i feel like i am. i am not happy the way the power is delivered to the wheels. today i got stuck in a patch of snow that i thought i could drive through, it wasnt overly big something i should have been able to get through. but i got stuck, my 4wd was not working (which i already knew and plan on looking at when the snow clears off the work area of my driveway.) so im stuck and now trying to get out and to my dismay one wheel is working like hell and the other is on vacation  this isnt the first time is happened and i think im ready to fix it.

im interested in making my rear posi. its code is 41 which tells me (from reading the board) that my gear ratio is 3.27. what do i have to do to get upgraded to a posi rear. i was thinking of putting an auburn unit in it. i want ot keep the gear ratio the same for now cause i have the stock size tires on it which are only a month old.

will this get me what i want? (both wheels to spin at the same time all the time)

is there a differance between a posi rear and a locker?

from what i have read on the board auburn is prietty good anyone have a problem with them?

is the 8.8 on a mustang of the same year the same as the 8.8 on the explorer? cause i have access to an aubrun for a mustang but i dont want to get it if it wont work

thanks for the help

posi is a limited slip onw will slip then both will grab until to much powered is applied, then one will slip again....
full traction all the time needs a locker..... the carrier you have now is fine for upgrading either.... if you want to do it yourself, the powertrax no slip is an excellent choice... decent street manners and great off road.....

auburn is ok... heard eaton was better.... a mustang one wont fit, due to most stangs having 28 splined axles and the x having 31 and something and from what i saw earlier, about their crosspins are a different size

the mustang one i have access to is a 31 splined i check but i dont know about the crosspins ill have to check that out

do you know what the price tag on the pwertrax is? and also a place to check it out?

also if you could give me a little knowledge what installation of a locker is that would be great too

thanks

A powertrax isn't the best for snow IMO. It is an autolocker, which means it has 2 modes: on and off. They sometimes lock abruptly causing a loss of traction and control on really slick surfaces.

I recommend an Eaton posi. They have very good road manners and don't surprise you. They are also relatively inexpensive, though they are not a DIY install.

whats the differance in installation from the auburn and the eaton?

I don't know about the Auburn, but the Eaton involves a complete carrier replacement. IMO both should be professionally installed so it doesn't really matter ;)
