Hey,

i just got my first vehicle and it is a 1994 ford explorer. i have been looking around and i wanted to lift my X about 4in. to put 33in. tires on it. I want to get a 3in. body lift for the back and for the front if possible.

i looked at some coil spacers for the front today and it could lift it 1-1.5 inches. but if i lift the back 3in. with blocks how could i get the extra inch for the back and get the 3in. more in the front.

I just wanted to know a cheap easy way to lift it and ride on 33's.

Thank you for your help.

A lot of guys do the coil spacers out of an 150 then do shackles, or you could do a BL. With 33s you want ot regear to something like 4:56's!

what would be the biggest tire to go with without gear changing?

what gears do you currently have? I wouldnt put 33s on anything less than 3.73s... I had a 3" body lift and ran 33s for a year and then added coil spacers/shackles.. You cant use blocks.. You'd either have to get add-a-leafs or shackles

i'm not sure but i think i've got 3.73s

check your door sticker there will be a axel code.
Code Gear ratio
43 3.08
41 3.27
42 4.10
46 3.73
45 3.55
D4 Limited Slip 3.73
D2 Limited Slip 4.10

yea i've got 3.73
so i think my gears will be ok for 33's

now what is a very easy and cheap way to lift the truck just enough to fit 33's with little to no fender trimming. it will be done by a kid or unexperienced person

thanks

Alright, I have an axle code 45, which means 3.55 gears... not very high... Seeing as 33's aren't recommended with less than a 3.73, I suppose 32's are the largest I should go until I regear, correct? Or should I just stick to the 31's?

I think we need a gearing chart, sort of like the tire/lift chart...

Damn 41= 3.27 gears. well I am still going to get my 33's and just not use 5 gear (Manual) for a while waiting for the 4.56 gears. Strange that is all 4wheel parts recomends for the Front.. I'm also going for the Lock rite in the rear and see how that helps. front end lockers cause me more problems than they cure.

I would say that if you are looking for four inches of lift you should get a 3 inch body lift. This will lift the entire truck 3 inches all around (front and back) and the best part is that this will only run you about 100 bucks. Then I would do the coil spacers in the front and shackles in the back. Now the spacers and shackles will give you about 1.5 inches so you will end up with 4.5 inches of lift but with continual sag of leafs and coils I would go with it. The spacers and shackles should run you anywhere from 100-150 bucks total. Your looking at about 250 bucks for 4.5 inches of lift.

my buddie runs 35s with 3.55 gears...he has broken numerous motor mounts and has gone through 4 u-joints in 200 miles....(89 F-250 302, 5 speed) just thowin this out there its too much stress IMO.
