Hi everyone!
I'm a french owner of a 98' Explorer and I got a problem: There's a noise on the driver side of the engine that goes "clic clic", and it accelerates with the engine speed. When I'm not moving, the noise makes me think I'm driving a diesel engine!!!

I went to see a ford dealer but in France Xplorer are not common so I don't trust the guy. He told me that I would have to change the chain tensionners and all the 12 "pushers" (I don't know how U call them in english, but there are 2 of them per valve). This would cost me around $600!! And the guy who sold it to me told me that it was impossible that those parts would fail now (the engine has only 39000 km ie not even 25000 miles) and that changing the oil and the oil filter would do.

I don't know what to think of all this! please help me and tell me if you ve experienced the same problem or if you know what it could be.

Thanks a lot!

Speak to your Ford Customer Relationship Centre, the clicking noise is associated with the Cam Chain Tensioners and their is a recall on them by Ford and they will be replaced free of charge.

At the same time get them to check what other recalls are applicable to your Explorer
