Hi Guys,
It’s been awhile since I last posted on this forum.
I am having some mechanical problems with my 1998 Explorer Sport and before I take it in to the dealer I would your guys’ opinions/thoughts on the matter.
It’s an intermittent problem that has only happened about three times in the last 6 months or so and it appears to only happen after I fill her completely with gas (topped off) ~ she turns over/starts fine but as soon as I take my foot of the accelerator she dies, I can get around this by revving the engine a bit (above 1000 rpm).
Once I get on the highway or freeway she drives perfectly fine but if I come to a stop or red light whereas the rpm’s dip say below 1K she dies?
I had this annoying problem this past weekend on a hunting trip but after getting on the freeway and driving back to town about 40-50 miles and seeing the gas gage go down to about three quarters the problem mysteriously went away.
So yesterday morning I fill her up again then drop my kids off at school and guess what? The problem starts again and I am now totally pissed so I call my local Ford dealer (who SUCKS!) and make an appointment to bring her in this morning, but after driving her around town for a while (about 40-50 miles) and noticing the gas gauge go down the problem once again mysteriously stops?
I know this sounds like a weird problem and I am not sure if ‘topping-off’ the gas has anything to do with it, but before I take it to the dealer I wanted your opinions because every time I take my vehicle to the dealer for service I always leave feeling like I have just been screwed over big time.
Thanks,
-James
