The mechanic tells me that it is because of a failure of the ABS Pump (the one that is on the frame under the driver's seat). The cost of the part alone is $200.00, plus labor, but I currently don't have the money to fix it and need to keep using the truck ('92 model year, rear ABS only).
Will the brakes work fine (no ABS) if I by-pass the ABS pump and take the ABS fuse out of the fuse box? (after properly bleeding the brakes, of course!). As far as I understand, after that my truck would have full function of the brakes with no ABS at all.
Please let me know if this right or not.

Thanks,

Mando

Come on guys! I really need your help!

YES- bypassing the pump will allow you to have "regular brakes. You'll need to find the fuses for the ABS pump etc and pul them.
You'll have a ABS light up front on the dash but your brakes should perform the same as a NON ABS vehicle.

good luck

This will work, but DO NOT use it as a permanent repair. I wouldn't run the vehicle this way for more than a couple weeks. I haven't tried it, but instead of removing the valve, leave it in place and just disconnect the brake lines from it (splice them together with a union) and remove the ABS fuse.

Mondo-I changed my module a while back. Bought it from carparts.com at a decent price. I know I didn't pay $200 for it. Took me an hour to replace.

Thanks guys! (I just had the chance to check this tread!)

Take care,

Mando
