While closing a gate to my property I got sidetracked by a discussion with a friend. I left the engine , 4.0, running with the air on, needed in Las Vegas now. I started hearing detonation at idle and goosed the engine to clean out the cobs. The detonation increased and the power curve fell flat on its face about half throttle. The water temp was only 3/4 the way towards red. Now as I drive during the 120 degree days I get a continual detonation on acceleration. Anyone have a clue?

when was the last time the T-stat and antifreeze were changed?? I don't run AC, but I've yet to have a power lose in the heat. Although hot air does cause the engine to run with less power than cool air.

Have your cat checked it is probably plugged.

lee, thats because you wont go and charge it... :)

i do the same thing as you in our 90 degree heat with no problem. power drops a little @ wot but no detonation

Hey Lee.

Any good tune up shops you would recommend in Las Vegas that can do a performance tune up and not your average wham bam thank you mam?

what are you looking at doing.....plugs and wires?? If so give me a yell. It's KINDA simple and we'll do it some weekend. If you're not up to doing it yourself I don't know....never tried it. :)

Sounds good, but I have a slight disability, back injuries. I used to do everything by myself, but find if I do now I pay for it with pain the next couple days. If you would be willing and you have the facilities I would appreciate some help with tune up, fluid change, and cleaning that sensor that everybody talks about. I can repay with a flight around Lake Mead or something.

I haven't done plugs in awhile....but the process is the same. Just bear with me. I only have a driveway...so if you've got a garage....we're using your place. :) As for the fluids....no problem. :) Oil takes about 15 minutes. I love my QuickAir. :) The mas...go on a run and I've got you. Got the bits' in my truck.

ps...you aren't one of those guys that they find their planes crashed over the Grand Canyon are you?? :) Sorry...I had to. We're looking at running Sheep Mountain(one to the North). We've done this trail before with no problem except for the snow. We don't need to worry about this. :) To get out of the heat we're looking for a night run. I'm going to call the BLM to see if they lock the gates. If they don't.....here we come. :) The stock lights will be fine....we'll just put you in the middle. You game??

No garage so I guess I have to wait until heatwave over or let the tune up shops deal with it. What is a QuickAir? As far as fluids I wanted to replace most with synthetic, but haven't had the time to convince one of the oil change places to use my stuff.

Well 600 hours flying and only had 2 passengers jump out from fear :) Kidding. No incidents on my record....well there was this one....

The run sounds great if I can get this beast running reliably. Can I bring the guns? By the way have you seen our ultimate off road machine we sell at www.fearlessfreadys.com? It can pull a hummer in a tug of war up a 60% incline. Only costs $10k instead of $60k for hummer.

This heat is getting to me....the plugs can become a job...so maybe a shop is best. If you can wait till it's all over I have no problem. The quickair is an onboard air compressor I've got. With the air tank it runs air tools no problem. Give me a yell....We'll do your fluids no problem. The run is on BLM land...so I'm not sure about the guns though. Sorry. :(

PS.....I saw something like that at a shop in town awhile ago.....get one of those and start a tour at moab. :)

BLM is no problem on firearms as long as it is out of incorporated city areas. Just don't know if anyone with the group would be interested in shooting some.

Maybe you saw them in front of our store. We had three of them at one time.

What's UP?

I have the same problem in the heat. Would be more than happy to assist you with your Explorer. I have all the necessary tools, a garage and the KNOW HOW.

Hit me back..

By the way, I live in Summerlin.

What part of town u in?

OUCH.....THAT'S GOTA HURT. :)

I don't know the BLM's rules on firearms...it's fine by me. When are you guys open for a get together?? Even if it's not a run....a group meeting would be great.

Lee

Let's all get together and make a party of it. Lee can bring his QuickAir to make short work of it. I live in the south end near Boomtown, but have a store at SW corner of Sahara and Jones named Fearless Freadys. If you come in ask for Andy so I know it's a friend and not a salesman, one of the drawbacks of being president.:)

Hey

Where did everyone go? I guess maybe the email notification system isn't working too well. I didn't get a response from the last post. If you guys are interested I'll be at Cashman Center Las Vegas gun show this weekend if you want to stop by. I'm liquidating a lot of stuff that would be useful on the trail. Look for a large pile of sleeping bags and ask for Andy.
