I have a 1991 Explorer 4WD 4.0, I had a guy replace the intake manifold gasket because it was leaking. He had just got everything put back together and something isn't right! It starts right up, no problem. It seems like it idles fine also, but when I shift into gear it idles very low and there is no power. I can put the pedal to the floor and there is no power. When I put it back in park I can rev it up again. It appears that all the vaccum lines are connected and he double checked the plug wires on the coil pack and said they're correct.

It didn't have this problem before, so something is obviously connected wrong.

Does any body have any ideas??

Thanks,
john

so it ran okay until the guy removed the intake? Well, the only thing that can be said is that something is either not hooked up right or something else is not the way it was. How low of a RPM at idle are we talking about?

If the 4.0 OHC has a distributor like my old 2.9, he probably has it in 180 degrees out.

I had that happen to me when I replaced the distributor. It would start and idle ok, but would barely move the truck with it on the floor.
