hey guys- I am out in the garage NOW with my truck all jacked up and the drivers side leaf pack off... how do you get the pin out... its a round pin going through the pack with a nut on the end...... you turn the nut and the pin moves... i put vise grips on the pin and it just slips--- should i just put some heat to the nut ot what?

thanks

Does the add-a-leaf kit come with a new pin/stud to replace the one you need to take out? I know when I did a add-a-leaf on my old Chevy I had it came with a replacement pin because the original was to short with the add-a-leaf. Also, if you have them use C-clamps to hold the pack together because that pin is what holds them together.

Now back to your question, if it has a new one in the kit just cut off the nut or soemthing. If not, then try some WD-40 or something to break up the rust that is holding the threads. I hope this might help. I know what it feels like to get into something and have things go wrong. Been there, done that. Good luck.

Good point Mike. Just cut the old one off. There's a new one provided in the kit.

PUR, it's very simple. Tighten the vice grips and clamp it down HARD. You'll get it off. Cutting it off will be very hard. Don't heat the nut, you'll just be heating the bolt too so that won't work. Use the vices grips, if they don't grip well check the teeth on the vicegrips. If they are worn, get a new pair.

thanks guys- I got the suckers off... took the cutting torch to them-lol... and it worked great- got it all done and install- looks awesome...now till jan 4 when i can get around to the 3" body lift

I hope the torch didn't take something out of the original leafs. Heat and springs don't go together to well. If it was quick you are probably OK and won't have any problems. Lets hope:)

I just used my angle grinder. There are some tools you "MUST" have when you plan working on your rig yourself.

Good luck!
