Have you tried not touching the brake pedal with a good fuse in there and trying each side turn signal?

Also, the trim package is written on the rear liftgate, and if it isn't, then you have an Eddie Bauer, which is written on the side....

i will try that in the morning, it has been painted, no rear or side marking, thanks for your help

Well, if it has been painted, then the only way to tell is the trim, and options. If it is an Eddie Bauer, the seats will likely be leather, and say "Edddie Bauer" on them...You probably have either a Sport, or an XLT. The Sport has a black grille, and bumpers, whereas the XL and XLT have chrome grilles and bumpers.....

Does it have any trailer wireing? This is one of the most common places for shorts in the brake lights.
