Hey gang. I want to know if and where I can buy a replacement driveshaft. I want the one in the rear from the tranny to the diff. What I'd call the main driveshaft (damn there's lot's of moving parts down there). I have a 4x4 4-door automatic first gen. I found used ones through pick n pulls, but I don't want a used one. After too many hours of research in the last week it appears that driveshafts don't exist in our north american market. WTF? So, I'm ready to be spoon fed an answer. Please, what is this part number and where can I get it? Remanufactured would be great, OEM new at an overstock / discounted price is okay. Heck, new at MSRP would be interesting to know the price and that they exist.

Thank you in advance

You might be in luck.

We have several forum vendors who deal in OEM Ford Parts, and also drivetrain specific vendors as well.

forum member FORDSVTPARTS is Tousley Ford, a dealership that offers OEM Ford parts at 10% over cost. You can PM them for price and availability, or go to their website, www.tousleyford.com for phone info.

forum member ericaautopart is Automotive Parts Unlimited LLC, who deals in drivetrain and driveshaft parts. They can likely get you a new or remanufactured driveshaft, plus new Spicer U-joints to go with it. You can ask in this thread about your particular application:

There's also Torrie at FastPartsNetwork.com, another OEM Ford Parts source.

Do you really need a new driveshaft though? Unless they are bent or broken, they can usually be 'reconditioned' simply by lubing the slip joint, replacing the cover and/or bands, and adding new U-joints. U-joints, even Spicers, are very inexpensive, especially compared to a driveshaft.

Also keep in mind other forum members parting out in the For Sale forum might have what you need from a good rig. You might not want used, but for a price, it can be hard to beat, especially if it already has new joints.

...I completely forgot about our vendor's thread on Drive shafts...:(

...Good call..:biggthump

Here's your spoon.

I used Pacific Grove, CA and did a search for 100 mile radius. Capitol Expressway Ford Lincoln Mercury was the closest.

OEM part number: F1TZ4602C
Replacement: 4602
4.0L - A4LD; (1992 Application Chart) 112'' WB - 4x4
$553.92 for a brand spanking new rear driveshaft.

I have to agree with Anime> His info about used or reconditioned is spot on and also in asking why a new shaft as unless bent broken (in the tube area or u joint yoke ears or a bad spline area there really is no reason to get a new one for a stock truck.

On an old truck I did own I was blowing U joints all the time and it was the ears that were shot so I have a custom shaft made and it was well worth it. So my thinking is if a stock shaft will not does it get a custom one made for your self just go top line splicer parts!

Their may be a driveshaft company in town that can build you a custom shaft. We had one made for our 06 mustang using all new parts (nothing was re-used). It was $300ish out the door for a steel shaft

Just another option...
