I've done alot of searching and can't seem to find a clear dry cut answer. I've tried looking up the specs on the factory amp as well to determine which subwoofer I need to get, no luck. My Mountaineer has the mach audio sound system in it and the factory subwoofer went out on me, my amp/stereo is still factory. All I want to do is replace the subwoofer nothing else. I see some people using the JL Audio 8w1v2-4 ohms but then I see others saying you want to get the JL Audio 8w0 which JL no longer makes. I believe you can still buy the 8w0 online though. Anyone have any suggestions on which speaker would better if being used with the factory amp/stereo?

I was also looking at the 8" Kicker CompVT. Anyone know if this would work?

To be honest I would just go with any sub that can handle what the amp pushes out. If mine ever goes out after Ig et a new amp I am just going to Parts Express to get a cheap one because I am sure it will go out again.

also, is that an 8" sub? I have 2 MTX Thunder Series 8" subs that have a crapload of bass, possibly go for those if they are cheap, mine where free because the previous owner was upgrading.

Yeah, it's an 8" sub...

Well I ended up going to a local audio shop and I brought my box inside to see which speakers fit. I ended up going with the Kicker CompVT 8" sub 4 ohms. The CVT sub is made for compact spaces which fit the box perfectly. Here's a few pics...

Notice the white stuff in the middle of the box. I Just used a silicone to plug the hole that the bolt went through that mounted the factory sub.

The speaker fits perfectly. I did have to buy some new screws (#8 x 3/4") to fit the speaker and drill new holes. So if anyone has the same factory mach audio system and they just want to replace their subwoofer, The Kicker CompVT 8" sub (4 ohms) will drop right in. Great drop in replacement.

Would it be possable to replace this speaker with out removing the entire box?
Or there a bolt thur the back of the encolsure into the speaker?
would it be possable to pry (carefully) the original out with out too much damage to the box? (maybe spin the speaker to un thread from bolt)

Hoping to do this on ours this week..

Thanks
Pete

No, you have to remove the box.
