help-shifting probems

I have a 96 Explorer w/4.0 engine & 4r55e tranny and it started off with the transmission not wanting to shift from 2nd to 3rd unless you let off of the gas. I purchased a rebuilt valve body and installed it, but now the problem has moved to 1st to 2nd. Anyone have any ideas of what to try next?

Welcome to this forum! Check the bands to see if they are broken or out of spec.

I would also try to check to see maybe while during the rebuild maybe a wire was pulled loose or dirt got into the solenoids... I have seen alot of people in my area with similar problem after rebuilding the VB, found that they never replaced the o-rings on the solenoids connected to the sides of the VB... Just a thought!!!

Guys, we REALLY need to figure out a "fix" for this problem, as it seems to be VERY common!!!

Just as the VB Rebuild Diary has helped so many (including myself), something similar needs to be put together for this "my-transmission-doesn't-want-to-shift unless-I-let-off-the-gas-first" problem.

Many of you probably know that I have had this problem downshifting out of OD (unless I let off the gas first)...the more and more I look into 5R55E's the more I run into this same non-shift issue with other people.

What do you think?
