Ok, so every day at least, my speedometer does this thing where it goes crazy, like it doesn't want to keep the right speed, it spikes up then back down to what speed I was at? Any ideas?

Check where it connects to the t-case. Might be loose or missing the retaining clip. That would be where I'd start.

Ok and if its intact, then what?

Follow it up to where it terminates. That I haven't done. Check the weakest link and work your way back to the speedo assembly.

Ok. Thanks, will see what's up with it.

I replaced mine. it might just be worn out. maybe if you pull out the speedometer you can add the speedometer cable grease and hope it works. my speedometer used to do the exact same thing.

Ok, tried the grease thing, and it still jumps a bit. Not so sure that solved the problem. Maybe a new cable is in the works.

it might need a new cable or try replacing the speedometer.

not sure. depends on the scrap yard. i got my new cluster and a door panel for 120. allegedly a good price. but it seems difficult to me to replace the cable. but it might be cheaper to get.

The speedo needle is driven by rotating magnets, if the needle is sluggish then the magnets probably have lost thier charge. Chances are the cable is good unless it got snagged or is rusted internally.

Hm never knew that. What is the best way to take care of it then?

my ranger hs been doing that since i got it 2 two years ago never thought about fixing it now i might try it becouse i have a spare cluster

Well, its starting to really really bug me now. Hubby has said that he drove it yesterday and the speedo went totally crazy on him.....went all the way up and stuck there....I'm thinking new cable. Gonna try that first.

I would replace the the cable, and make sure you clean out the area were it plugs in at. also grease it up, because the new ones come dry. packing grease is a good universal choice for us explore owners.
