I have a 96 XLT and I'm trying to bypass the amp, I cut the power and ground wires and then put them back together when I was just messing around and when I put them back my radio wont work...Its driving me crazy...I checked the Voltage and everthing is ok. Byt he way the reason I'm doing this is to install my new HU and subs...but the HU doesn't come in for a few more days so I'm left without a radio I assume

Did u unhook the battery? Might have blown a fuse, for my 93 i did the same thing, call crutchfield and ask they'll. give u some fuse numbers that might have blown.

I didn't, power is going to the amp...could it be burnt out???

There are 3 fuses for the radio. Check the manual for their location. If at any time you accidentally touch the wrong wires you can do internal damage. Is the HU operating, just no sound?

At any rate, you will have to bypass the amp anyway so I wouldn't loose any sleep over it. You can get an amp bypass harness at Crutchfield.

Probably just blew a fuse.

This may be out of the subject, but is there any way to get the factory amp/sub to work with an aftermarket HU? Also, if so, how would the bass be adjusted?

Thanks.

The head unit is working and power is running to the amp...I checked it...I think I blew it

No, the stock radio does not have an amp which is why there is a remote amp. After market HU's have amps already in them, that is why you will need to bypass the remote amp.
