I have a pioneer 4100 head unit and got 2 pioneer 6865 and 2 6855's for xmas. I put them in with the stock amp hooked up and they really don't sound that great. So I plan on bypassing the amp but I'm not sure if I have the speakers hooked up right. Does it matter which wire goes to which terminal on the speaker? And if it does can someone tell my how to do it correctly? Thanks

The polarity of the speakers needs to be maintaines, ie, hook up the ( for example ) left front + wire from ther HU to the left front speajer +, and so on.

I am not sure the color code of your wiring.

Good luck.....

WARNING: It ain't my fault if you cook your speakers doing this

To figure out polarity I use a 9V battery... Hook a couple wires up to the battery and tap them on the speaker terminals. If the speaker pops out, then the + battery terminal is hooked to the + speaker terminal, and vice versa. If it sucks in, you have them backwards. Just tap the wire to the terminal for a fraction of a second, you'll fry it good if you leave it on there. But I've never burnt one up doing this.

What is wrong with the sound, lack of bass response indicates polarity problem. Reverse them and see how they sound.

Got the polarity figured out and dumped the factory amp - sounds much better now....all I need now is a new amp and a sub!
