take a close look at teh speaker and its construction, if its a woofer, a midrange (aprox 1 3/4 inch) then a tweeter, then something like that may make sense. if its anything like the JBL 3-way, a woofer, tweeter and a piece of foil posing as a 3rd speaker, then that obviously doesnt make sense to spend the extra $20 or whatver it is. IMHO use your judgement and decide whats best for you, if the difference is barly noticeable go with the 2-ways,

3 way will sound a lot better. Plus if you decide to hook it to an amp the usualy can handle a little more power. 2-ways are pretty good for the price. You should go down to your local stereo shop and litsten to both 2-way and 3-way speakers. You should really be the one deciding this not us. It's all your choice.

Three Ways

I have the Pioneer three ways (listed in my signature) and I love them. Best thing you can do after upgrading your head unit. If you wait and shop around (maybe model year closeouts, Chirstmas sale, etc. ) you should be able to get them for around $95 a pair, which was only like $5 more than the two ways.

I would go with the 3-ways upfront and 2-ways in the rear. http://www.tmselectronics.com has the 3-ways for $72 and the 2-ways for $55. I ordered my Pioneer's from them and they arrived within a week.

Coaxial or Triaxial????

this is Bob Jusnes, they guy who posted the original question, i got a new user name! anyway, i notice the 3-ways are triaxial and the 2 ways coaxial. dont think im stupid if this is obvious, i dont know that much about car speakers. the ones i have currently in the car use 2 wires. is that coaxial? and will i have trouble if i buy triaxial??? by the way, thanks for all your input guys!!!

No that's not it. Both use the two wires (power and ground). The coaxil basically means two speakers in one (woofer and midrange) with the triaxil being (woofer, midrange, and tweeter) They both hook up the same way to the wiring.

I have 6x8 Pioneer 3-ways in all four doors..they sound great. Its worth the extra twenty or so bucks. What kind of head unit do you have by the way??

i have the original Ford head unit. it is the CD player one. i think the head unit is ok, the reason i wanted new speakers was because when i turned the volume past halfway, the sound got more and more distorted and not any louder. i figure better speakers will solve this. i was considering anew head unit, but i dont want one that doesnt completely fill the opening. i think the ones with the adapter look funny.

The factory head unit will work I guess. I have a Pioneer CD deck put in and it looks great. Not funny! Personally, I believe you'll get a lot more out of those 3-ways if you got a new deck w/ about 45 watts going to each speaker. But I can understand if the money is tight though.
Good Luck

if thats your problem then keep the stock speakers and just change the head unit. the speaker in the car are actually pretty good, i put an Xtant 3100c (5 channel) on my stockies and they are actually quite nice. the problem you are having happens in all ford radios. even the lincolns, the louder you make it, the more it turns the bass down. they either did that to intentionally save the system or because its a sony, i dunno, even if you change the speakers change the radio eventually if you want loud and clean sound.

The 6895's are two way but it has a horn tweeter which probably sounds better than than the 3 ways. BTW Best Buy has Pioneer speakers on sale this week. Buy one get one for half off. 4 of the 6x8 3-ways can be had for $150.

thanks a lot

thanks eddie, i bought them 2 weeks ago for 99 a pair at best buy. cant you read the future and tell me about these sales before they happen :-D

I did the same thing. I took the receipt in yesterday and got a $50 credit. If you have already installed the speakers, buy 4 more at the sale price and take them back with your old receipt.

thanks eddie! will do
