Ok guys,
What I'm hooking up two amps for the time being and i just want someone to look over my wiring and make sure i'm doing this right. So here it goes:

2 gauge from battery to AnL fuse
From AnL fuse to Cap
4 gauge from Cap to Distributor Block
8 gauge from distributor Block to Amps
Amps: 400a4 and 500a2 and one more 500a2 at end of month.....

This is how the guy at Best Buy told me to do it going down in wire sizes.......or should i run 4 gauge to at least the sub amps? Will it really make a difference between 4 and 8 going into the amps when the amps have 8 gauge inputs? Thanks for your time.

the capacitor should be as close to theamp as possible. otherwise it isnt going to be efficient.

anyway. i think 2 ga to the fuse. then 2 ga from fues to dist block. then 4 ga from the block to the cap and 4 ga from cap to subwoofer amp. the amp without the cap (i'm guessing this will be your full range amp for mids and highs) will also have 4 ga going to it but directly from the dist block.

Never get anything above 4 gauge. 4 gauge is sufficient for pretty much anything. 8 gauge is risky. Might as well just do it right the first time.

Referring to what leenjen said... Nothing more than three feet away from the amp but you also dont want it to be too close or that would completely defeat the purpose.

Would i have to get another Cap when i get my other sub amp? Couldn't i just run the cap before the dist. block for the three amps? Or would i need a cap for each sub amp? Also, will there be a NOTICABLE difference from using 4 gauge instead of 8 gauge FROM the fused distrubution block to the amps? I already know i will definetly be using 8 gauge for the full range amp (400a4). Thanks for all the help! Keep tha suggestions coming!

yea man 8 gauge is sad ****. Not worth it. Might as well spend the extra lil cash and do it. It could potentionally blow your amp and cause over heating and weak performance. Just be safe and do it anyway its not even that expensive.

Why is 8 gauge risky. Why will it damage your amp. If you choose the right size power wire for the current you are going to draw over the length of the run going to a larger power wire is just a waste.
If your amp has 8 gauge inputs there will be no way to get a 4 gauge into it. Which if i remeber is what the 400 has. The 500s have 4 gauge inputs and I would run 4 guage for those.

The 500 has 8 gauge.......the POWER 500 has 4 gauge.......

i got this thick thick wire my dad ummm "borrowed" from work..... its wicked thick.

LOL.. borrowed;)

do you have a picture of it?
i know a guy that wired his system with electrical wiring from Shea Stadium. that was some thick wire.
