Hey fellow 4x4'ers:
My overdrive has been out for sometime now on my 1993 Ford Explorer 4x4 and I have had enough. I know some of you may be thinking that it has something to do with the "push button", well mine has the "OD" position selector on the dash.....there is no button that has to be pushed inorder to engage overdrive. I have decided to take a look at the vaccum modulator valve this upcoming weekend. The reason I believe it is the Modulator valve is because just before the OD stopped working I heard a loud "POP". I believe this pop was the diaphram bursting within the Modulator valve, but I could very well be wrong. I would appreciate any words of Wisdom/Warning concerning this issue. I know I need to take a look at the vaccum line going to the modulator valve in order to see if any transmission fluid has been sucked into the line. As far as taking the valve off the transmission I know nothing of the matter, nor do I know what to expect once I take the modulator valve off (I do know where the vavle is located). I know the part costs around $26.00 and I wish to keep it that way. I would hate to get the thing off and then find myself having to give my truck to Ford and then having to fork over a couple hundred or more. Thanks for your time and I hope to hear your advise soon.
