Well, what to do. When I was about to leave OTown to move - didn't get out of town by much when the knocking began. I pulled over and shut it off - it was hot. We had noticed that the coolant res was empty before I headed out - but to no avail - about 45 min into trip (pulling an enclosed 6x10 trailer) it started to have issues. It was towed to brother's and from my understanding, he changed the radiator and thermostat....It started right up and he says it seems to do well. He did say that after sitting for 3 to 4 weeks that white smoke came out tail pipe when started, but dissipates after it runs for a few.
Do I trust bringing it to N. GA? What needs to be done to see if it is a cracked head or just a blown gasket? How involved time wise is it to change out the head gaskets? I remember doing it on an old Dodge Dart (my first car) many many many moons ago - and while I was helped it took a long weekend for me to do. Messy but did it! I'm sure there is a Chilton book out there to do it with - correct? Just lookin for advice. I have dumped a lot of money into the thing - new transmission at 75k... now reads 150k, have done a lot to the shafts, cams and well, jeez - seemed to have rebuilt the bloody thing. I need the extra "old wheels" for bad weather get around up here in the clay/mud.... is it worth it? Email me - give me your opinion... otbnetworking@gmail.com Thanks
