Well it figures! I was so pumped to have the new 4.56's and the E-locker, but of course those exuberant feelings must crash and burn.

My first issue is the 4x4 light flashing in a 6 sequence. I spent time searching and it seems the most likely culprit is the T-case speed sensor. However this has never been a concern in the past, and it started within 5 minutes of starting my truck after regearing. They had to have messed something up or disconnected something.

Any ideas what???????? If I disconnect the battery for a few minutes I can get the front end to engage 4x4 for about 10 to 20 miles before the lights start flashing and the front end loses power (I can see it lose power with the brown wire mod in place, the switch goes Dark). Interestingly enough though I can still engage my transfer case for 2 low

Now for issue number two. When they installed the E-Locker they handed me the wiring harness and told me that was my part of the installation. The harness installed very easily, but when we tried to engage the locker fuses started blowing. We tried hookin it up several ways, including bypassing the harness and wiring it in directly to the battery with an inline fuse. Still blew the fuse and would not engage. Mystified I unplugged the leads coming out of the diff and hooked them up to the Multi-Meter. I expected to see some resistance, but instead it showed that the lines had continuity between them. Basicly the meter beeped and showed a 1 which indicates ground. I assume that this means that they have crushed the wires together when putting the cover back on, or something similar.

Anyway I have put in a couple calls to them and will be at the shop before they open on Monday to raise cain. However in the interim, I was wondering if anyone else had any thoughts on the matter.
I was also wondering if one of you with the E-ocker would be willing to test their resistance at the leads coming out of the dif and let me know what the readings were.

Thanks

grr I am so pissed :fire:

Hopefully I can be in a little nicer mood tomorrow morning when I make them fix it!!!!

Any advice for sunday attempt or testing though :p
In other words bump cause I am fixated on this issue.

if your reading 0 ohms, then the wires are grounded out inside the pumpkin. take it back and ask them if they tested it. i know 4wp tested mine with a spare battery while it was on the lift by touching the wires to it before they gave the truck and the harness to me and said "you get to install the wiring".
BTW this locker takes about 8 amps to make work. you need to use the relay and at least a 10 amp fuse to make it work.

If they didnt test it before giving it to you thats their bad. It took 2 lockers before i got one that worked right. Apparently the install of the electromagnet is very cranky to get right. it has been working perfect ever since.

A bit more to add in regard to the 4x4 concerns. The lights of course continue thier flashing. This I would like to solve and let Randy's focus on the locker problems.

I went and found a nice big parking lot with a gravel side. I tried making a tight circle in all of the settings. Auto, 4hi, and 4lo. It seems that the 4x4 engaged in both of it's settings as the front end started to bind up.

I moved over to the gravel and gave the tires a light spin in 4 hi. The front was definately engaged. I tried to give the same light spin in auto, and the front never kicked in.

Interesting that my drivetrain is working normally, but the lights are going nutty and do not indicate what mode I am in. Just flash six times and pause before doing it again.

And the last little tid bit that intrigues me is this. I have a lighted rocker spliced into the brown wire. When 4hi or lo is engaged this lights up. Typically it changes in intensity as I drive when in auto, however now it is just dark in auto and lights in 4x. What could cause this??????

I am thinking the front sensors for the auto 4wd arent working. try checking if the abs sensors or any sensors around the front pumpkin are unplugged from these guys changing your gears. Sounds like they made a real mess of things. i dont know any specifics about your year explorer, maybe someone that has more info and details of what specific sensors to look for can chime in?

 I am locking this thread and opening another to address my ongoing concerns with the 4x4 lights.

To update this thread a little I spent the morning and early afternoon hanging out with the guys up at Randy's Ring and Pinion. They had no clue why my 4x4 lights were flashing. They did examine everything and couldn't find anything unplugged or such. To follow this issue follow the below link to my new thread.

4x4 lights after gear change

To follow up on the concerns with the eaton e-locker. As I mentioned earlier we found that the leads actually coming from the locker were grounded out. Which suggested to me that they had crushed the wires or something when re-insatalling the cover. After thay got it all disassembled they told me that everything was fine, and that I had likely installed the wire harness incorrectly. This was possible, but not likely as I had used a volt meter to test after every connection. I stepped out into the garage to show him that it was indeed grounding out. Only it wasn't, and was working properly. He then checked all of my wiring and found it to be ok. Hooked up to the harness the locker again activated and worked properly. Feeling stupid I watched him button it all up and go for a test spin only to find that the locker did not work.

At this point I asked to borrow the volt meter and showed him that it was again grounded out. They popped it apart again to find nothing wrong.

They then messed around with trial fitting the cover to see what was happening. What he noticed was that the wires were touching the "abs?" ring inside the differential and had effectively split the casing on the hot wire. When it was all put together the wire was pressed up against this ring thingy and grounding to the dif. What they ended up doing was tapping and plugging the original hole for the leads and moving it over a few inches to get a straighter shot with the new wires.
Now it works great :D

What an un-entertaining 670 dollar investment in the winter. Can't wait to see what it can do in the summer :bounce: :bounce:
That is if I have 4x4, but then again locked 2x4 may be enough
