My tranny has 90K on it and the fluid smells and looks perfect. I started down the rd this morning and when it hit drive it was like it went to neutral. its popping no codes. I took it took local shop and they said the pressure was dropping to 30 when it hit drive and should be holding closer to 40. I really think its a solenoid problem or electrical OK I hope it is. If i had an idea what to look for or change I would rather spend couple hundred than couple thousand.
If any one might have any suggestions please let me know.
I also would like the tranny service manual if you have a copy pm me
Thanks

Is 3rd gear or 4th gear missing? 4th gear is usually the overdirve band or internal problem.

its 3rd gear. I have not tried to make it go into OD every gear works great except 3rd and not sure about OD

Does it just rev up and never engage in 3rd? Sounds like internal problem but codes would be helpful.

i don't know all the technical terms but this is whats happening when it tries to shift into drive there is not enough fluid pressure to fully engage drive. If you jack the truck up drive engages and stays engaged obviously because there is no load and it does not require as much fluid pressure to keep it engaged with out a load.

as for the code it is not producing and OBD code. My dodge did not pop a code for both pressure sensor solenoids when they were bad and they are both electrical components go figure?????

I just cant believe its a mechanical failure since the tranny only has 90k and the fluid is perfect which suggest no previous slipping I personally think its one of two problems the seal in the drive (3rd gear) drum has failed or one of the solenoids has failed. Now if its a drum seal tranny has to come out if its a solenoid the tranny may not have to come out. I don't know of any way to test the solenoids

At the moment I am looking for any and all suggestions.
Tia
