I have a 1992 EX EB, V6 4.0 OHV with 131,x.. miles and an automatic transmission. I brought my EX in mid August 2003. Since I have owned this vehicle the oil light came on about once since a month since August.
I thought I may have had an oil leak, but I had my EX checked out by a trusted Mechanic/Friend who said there was no oil leak, but he said power steering lines and tranny lines were loose and leaking pretty bad. My Question is would the power steering and tranny lines being loose have anything to do with the oil light coming on? I know it is a dumb question, just trying to rule out possibilities to found out what is causing the light to come on.

If you have a 1992 you have the 4.0 OHV, not the sohc (unless you changed motors)...

The oil light is level dependant (oil level). The Oil Gauge is an analog idiot light. When your oil pressure is below 5psi it reads low. Above 5psi it read normal. Your oil light will turn on when you are about 2 quarts of oil low (or at least close to that).

Leaking Tranny or PS fluid itself won't cause the Oil light to turn on, BUT when they leak they get fluid everywhere. Fluid on wires will eventually eat through the insulation and may cause a short which can make it look like your are low on oil (I had a short on our X that made the oil pressure read no pressure).

BTW.. for info on converting your analog idiot light oil gauge to a real gauge do a search for "fake oil pressure"

i bet if you had an oil leak you would not have been able to see it with the other leaks

Thanks for the replies. I will try and check the wires to see if insulation is intact, and keep an eye out for all the fluid levels daily. I have read that the Oil Gauge is an analog idiot light, but that is a mod for when it is not 15.0 F outside. It is too cold to do anything.
