Just bought a Cobra DX 19 III CB radio and a PA speaker. Hooked the PA speaker up, tried it out and all I get is tons of feedback. I put the speaker in the cargo area and tried it and still got all feedback. If I mount the speaker outside will the feedback go away? If I get a noise cancelling microphone will that solve it? I want a cheap fix before I go and buy another microphone. Thanks for the help.

you need to get the speaker as far away from the mike as possible, and if you can turn the gain down on t as well, that will help.

What do you mean by the gains? The squelch?

some radios you can increase the mike output so you sound louder. Its whats called modulation. You can over modulate a CB and sound like crap, but if you get the modulation just right you can sound boomin on the other end. Power mikes like a D104 you can increase or decrease the gain on them right on the mike, while some radios do it internally. I have a Cobra 148GTL Peaked & Freaked with a mobile D104 and that baby can kick some royal butt, but with a PA speaker I have to almost turn the mike gain off to stop the feedback, and that is with the speaker as far out from the mike and the windows rolled up.

I mounted the PA speaker in the grille of the truck. It's hooked to a Cobra 19 DX II. I just put a headphone jack on the end of the speaker cable and plugged it in, no problems. I don't know if the speaker polarity has anything to do with it though.

My next project with my CB is this: I got a $14 40W amp at Radio Shack. I'm going to hook it up to be ignition controlled, and use it to amp my PA speaker.

cheesy pic but it gives you an idea where i mounted my PA speakers(one on both sides) mine are also powered by a 200 watt amp, its kinda of complicated how i hooked it up but if your interested just let me know and ill do my best to explain

so are you going to talk to people

Good news, it works now, but I got the cable caught either in the fan shroud or in on the steering because when I turned, the cable snapped. Tacomeat, how did you attach yours, and did you have to drill holes? Thanks.
