Hi all! I am so far out of my league on this forum, but I'm hoping you'll give this audio-idiot a hand anyway...

The factory am/fm/cassette unit in my '91 XLT finally died. I use the radio basically just to get traffic reports for my daily commute, and am not particularly picky about sound quality for music (don't shoot me!), though I do pop an occasional tape in.

I thought it'd be nice to at least have a CD player, so I went on over to crutchfield.com and picked up a basic Kenwood (KDC-122):

Got the wiring harness to use the factory amp I've already got:

Hooked it all up like so (see photo at link below):

(By the way, ignore the bare and taped connections in the photo-- I snapped the pic before I finished putting the crimp connectors on)

Plugged it in to the Explorer, and... bleah. Even at the max volume on the radio, I can just hear it. Plus, the reception on the radio isn't all that great (it was better on the factory unit before it died!).

So, my questions are three:

1. What do I do about the volume problem?

2. What's up with the poor reception? Did I just not get a decent unit? Could it be an antenna problem?

3. Since I was a total idiot and installed the Kenwood in the dash, how do I get the darn thing out now to fix problems 1 and 2?

Thanks so much for any advice you can give!
