i need retainers for the 988 spring,comp cams doesn't make them and crane cams went out of business is there any other retainers that work with the 988 springs?heads are at the machine shop now need help soon:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

i have heard that the ls1 work but i tried them and they don't fit!!my machine guy said the the stock retainers will work just fine and he don't know why i would need aftermarket ones.why do people use aftermarket retainers if stock will work?somebody shine some light on me!!
 






funny, I just talked to Comp about springs for my 422 cam and the guy said that the 988 springs will work just fine with stock retainers. Did you even try them?
 






yea I did post #2 but why didn't anyone else use them that is the question ps comp cams is full of retards

Everyoneelse might be retards too, lol. Look, as long as the diameter of the retainer is not smaller thatn the top coil of the spring it will work just fine. There is nothing special about them. Make sure your valve keeps are in real good too. last thing you want to do it drop a valve in the motor. Best way to do this is after you put all the springs and vales in, turn the head on it's side, (to prevent valve damage) and using a hammer (plastic mallet works best) and tap the top of the valves a few times. If you tap em directly on the valve (try not to hit the retainer) and the keepers don't shoot across the garage, you've gone good. If they do, pick em up and try again.
