...long story, but I have a friend with a 2002 Mountaineer AWD that has the rear differential removed and it needs reinstalled. No worries, but I was sent the following picture of what appears to be some kind of isolator or damper. I'm totally guessing, as I haven't even seen this truck yet. He said it was sitting on the bench, next to an identical part that was torn and not salvageable. I'll probably get to take a look sometime next week, but can any of you identify this part for me? I'd really appreciate your help.

Thanks, in advance!

Looks like it is part of a CV shaft.

It appears to be an isolator of some kind. Maybe between the subframe and body? Like I said, I've yet to put my eyes on the truck in its current state. I just want to make sure it isn't part of the rear end before I attempt to slap it back together.

Again.. thanks for the assistance.

it goes inside a cv joint,,

i broke one a couple years ago, and it fell out

Bob you are right and wrong at the same time, The CV joint you posted is what is used in the drive shaft. This is what the drive axle looks like.

See the part he is looking for in it.
I don't think its from a CV Joint. They have guts more like this.

Most excellent! Thank you very much. All of you. I really do appreciate the help.

No problem. Glad to help.

Flux capacitor
Original as muffler bearings, blinker fluid, etc. Do people think that 1985 term from "Back To the Future" is still funny?
