My daughter's 2 door 1993 sport has a bad hesitation when accelerating off idle and a check engine light. is there a way to recover the code without buying the obdI reader? And a more general question is should I expect to make every piece of the obdI system work , like for example my obdII ford stuff. Which I have become very familiar with. Any feedback would be great and I think the forum is very helpful with some great diaries.

ask the dealer..there are 2 wires under the hood that you plug a jumer wire betweem just behind the fuse box in hood compartment and you check the flashing lights in dash

You can pull codes with nothing more than a paper clip. There's a sticky in the Under the Hood forum, and two in the EEC-IV forum that describe the procedure.

157 and 158 could be a bad maf I guess, But I'll go thru and check the voltage on my tps, also plan on checking my o2 sensor, clean and inspect my maf, clean the idle air control. since I'm replacing plugs and wires as scheduled maintenance I have been thinking of putting some seafoam down a vacuum line first. since it can be hard on the plugs. I still need to run the koer but I wanted to do some basic maintenance first.

I'll post the solution soon as I notice a lot of 93's seem to have simular problems after searching the site.

Replaced to MAF with one from the Pull and Save for $8 and it seems to have fixed the error codes.

Try this!

Check for vacuum leaks, bad tranny modulator, Bad O2 sensors , Clean MAF and IAC.
