2001 sport trac 2wd
hey everyone I have a 2001 sport trac 2wd with 91k miles on it. it was kept up to date with maintenance since day 1( i have all of original owners receipts.) so when i go to start my ST only sometimes it hesitates. ill have my key key turned in to start and it will take anywhere from 2-5 secs for it to turn over. It has yet to stall or just not turn over it runs great when its started. its not throwing any codes. I just changed the oil and the fuel pump yesterday thinking that might help, but it did not:( I have a pretty good feeling that it might be in the fuel delivery system but not 100% sure. i am thinking about either fuel pump maybe bc my fuel pressure might be low or from reading on the forums my IAC. 2 pretty costly fixes anyone had the same issue or can point me in the right direction as far as where to start first. any help would be great thanks yall

Is it cranking during those 2-5s or is nothing happening? Could be spark plugs?? depending on how old they are

Yeah it cranks today it started right up everytime and I was all over town its only sometimes. Amd sparkplugs I think would have a more significant effect and more regular.:(

Your issues are a little confusing by your description. But, to answer the question "where to start first" ...get your battery tested. If it tests good, (and if I'm understanding correctly) the starter motor may be on it's way out. Also, could be alternator(get that checked as well). Autozone etc. will check battery and alternator for free. Then, go from there.

try doing a couple of key cycles to make sure the fuel pressure is up and then crank it up kind of normal after sitting a few days for it to take a few more seconds

usually when i do a few key cycles itll start right up on the 4th or 5th one so i am thinking its more along fuel pressure.
