I have a 98 Ex, XLT, AWD, 4.0 vin X, 204,000 miles, I have a question regarding remote door locks. I checked in the rear jack panel and I have the Control unit which looks to have an antenna, does this mean I have remote door locks. My family has owned the truck since mile #1 and of course they dont remember if it had the key fob

'98 Explorer Fob

The easiest way to find out if this vehicle has had a fob is to do a fob program reset.

Turn the key in the ignition from off to on 8 times in 10 seconds or less (very important to get it done in 10 seconds or less). Once the key has turn to the on position the eigth time, your power locks will automatically lock and unlock. If the locks don't move, then sadly, no fob.. If they do move, find a fob for your model year, repeat the fob program set above, then push any button on the fob and ~voila~ it's programed!

Hope this helps, it's easy enough to try...

BTW - When turning the key in the ignition, you won't actually turn it far enough to start the vehicle... I should have added that above....*whoops*

What Wiley said!

But it seems like keyless entry is something the driver of the vehicle would remember! :p:
