Love me some Rangers. In 1990, I bought an 88 ranger for 2700. Drove it hard for 22 years. Had to finally junk it and promptly bought a 97 ranger in 2012. Being retired I only put about 2000 miles a year on it. Its primary use is as a TRUCK..hauling wood and other stuff. Never had a need for 4wd even here in the snow belt. I run 4 snow tires, and in winter I go to the gravel pit and shovel in 6-800 lbs of road rock which I unload in the spring in my drive. If you look at your GVWR, a Ranger almost has the payload of an F 150. Plenty for me..the 88 and 97 have stiff enough suspension to haul 1000 lbs. Last year I was hauling wood about 1/4 mile, and I would have 1k in the back and pull 1k..with just a 4cyl 5 spd. The old ranger as a stick too. Beat em up, drive em hard. ITS A TRUCK.
