Hi all, I'm enjoying the forums! Anyways, I have a '99 Explorer 4x4, bought it back in April, and it has always been slow to engage in Drive. A couple of weeks ago, it started acting like it was slipping, motor reved and then clunked into gear. It would go immediately into gear if I put it in Low1. I took it to our dealer and they pulled the pan and replaced the VB gasket, it was blown in two places. The only problem is it fixed the engagement for a couple of days, and now it's back. Cold this be the EPC solenoid, or some other solenoid? As I said it engages immediately as it should if I go to L2 or L1, just not in the Drive position. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks,

Fonz

Take it back to the dealer. They warranty their work.

I am taking it in tomorrow morning. I just wondered if anyone had experienced this sort of thing, and if it could be another problem?? As I said, the VB gasket was blown, and they replaced it with the updated gasket. Thanks

They did take the pan back off, bolts were tight, put new epc solenoid in, bracket was ok, but fluid pressure drops when you put it in drive, then back up when it catches. Other than the delayed engagement, the transmission works perfectly as a new one, no slipping, harsh shifts, slipping shifts, or anything. I'm thinking of running it until it goes out. Any more suggestions?
