Hey everyone,

I'm having a problem with my truck. 4x4 seems to work just fine, but when I 'm on a steep angle or incline, it seems to slip out of gear. The I put it in park then throw it in drive and I can usually get up and over after a couple time of doing this. It doesnt happen on steep hills, just when I'm climbing up slowely on some rocks or something.
Anyone have any ideas whats causing this?
Thanks for the help, I would like to get this taken care of before the Superlift event this weekend.

also.....for a '97 Explorer Sport, what TCase is it?

Check your tranny fluid level. Sounds like you're low on fluid, and the pickup can't suck up fluid while you're at an angle.

Make sure the fluid isn't burnt, either. Perhaps it got hot and boiled, maybe burned a clutch or band.

While you're at it, check the xfer case fluid level. I doubt the problem is there, however.

When was the last time you changed fluids? Since your submarine adventure? If not, it might be time. I've changed tranny fluid and fixed problems - talk about black magic!

Scott,

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. I am going to check the tranny level, but first, the vehicle must be at running temp to check the level and running or is the other way around, cold and not running.
Thanks Again,
Rod

ohh yaa the last time the fluids where changed was after the "Red October" incident.

Warm the tranny by driving about 10 miles.
Then stop on a level surface and put the tranny through all gears. R-N-oD-D-2-1 and the put it in Park.
And check the fluid level.

Hope this helps.

Nick
