'97 Explorer XLT
Hi folks! I was just given a 97 Explorer XLT 2WD for free. Now for the bad news...it has been sitting since 2006 with no storage prep. Look forward to picking everyone's brains on how to get it back on the road. Thanks!

Pete

Welcome To The Forum! Add some fresh gas to the tank, check the oil level, check the transmission fluid level and change those asap. I would also change the fuel filter and give it a plugs/wires tune-up and check the condition of the serpentine belt. But just to get it to start I would just make sure the tranny and oil levels are alright and check the belt.

Thanks all for the help. I noticed the rotors are pretty rusted. Replace, turn or brake a few times pointed in a safe direction? I figure the brake fluid is probably shot as well.

the rust will probably burn off the first time you brake.

welcome
