hi all
i am in the process of buying my first explorer its a 1998 model what should i be looking out for
and are there any tell tale signs that i should be looking for i also notice in the cab on drives side just below auto box that theres a sort of well looks like a phone socket if so what phone kit does it except and its done 88000 by the way if that helps

check maintenance records.... the trannies on explroer werent the best, but they msot likely got the kinks worked out by 98..... other than that the explreors are a great vehicle

test out the 4wheel drive system if it has it. i forgot to do that on mince, but i think i got lucky with no problems

Started from Cold

Make sure you here it started from COLD and preferably after its been standing a couple of days.

Very rough tick over it needs intake O rings renewed .

Loud rattling from front of engine it needs new timing chain tensioner at front.

Do bothe these at same time as you must take manifold off for bothe.

If its not done it will need it some time. NOT a big problem but keep that quiet as it sounds realy exspensive, could get you a good discount..

hi guys

well its now been 4 months yes 4 months since i bought my explorer and where is it still in garage so far its had new head gasket new timing chains replaced front drive shaft that was missing front axle been taken out seals and diffs replaced and am still waiting for it hopeful to get a phone call today say its ready wont keep my fingers crossed tho

well yes i spoke to soon yet another week has passed still not got it back nd thats with the help of trading standards mind you had a phone call today saying it would be ready tonight well let me think that must now be over 20 dates i have been given now might get it for xmas yet just keep me fingers crossed
