- 1993 Ford Explorer XLT
Hi I'm Chris and I have a 1993 Ford Explorer XLT and I think my fuel pressure regulator is going bad, but I have had others say they think it's the timing. I took a toggle switch and placed it between my relay for the fuel pump and the fuel pump to test my theory and it seems to me that when the fuel pump kicks on it just keeps pumping steadily until it will cause a vapor lock situation, is what I think is going on. Before I put the switch on there I could spin the engine over constantly and it wouldn't crank but after a few revolutions it would sound like the timing was off because it would start acting like the starter was dragging. Now that I have the switch on there once I start turning the engine over I will cut the pump off for a few seconds then cut it back on for a couple of seconds and the truck will actually start up as long as I do this so am I thinking right and my fuel pressure regulator is bad?
