It could be done, but you would need to make some type of plate to mount on the inside of the hatch in order to sandwitch the sheet metal. If you don't the weight of the jack will rip the mount loose. Something else you should consider is that the gas struts that hold the gate open more than likely won't be able to handle the weight and make it impossible to keep it open without a big stick.
No it can't be done. I put a gas can carrior on mine for a long trail that needed some extra gas. About a week after the trail I noticed that two of the washers I used had ripped through the sheet metal. I used some nice size washers too though. The Hi-Lift weighs more too. I'm sure you could do it.....but I wouldn't. Try the front bumper. Works like a charm.
Could you do this on the back bumper as well? I have a Manik guard up front.
I have no roof rack at all and was curious what size of one to get to fit it under the rear seat. Wife would like that better than on either bumper but I'll see what i can get away with.
